Guldagergaard – International Ceramic Research Centre
Guldagergaard – International Ceramic Research Centre is the place where ceramic artists from around the world come together to create, research, and experiment. Located in the idyllic Danish town of Skælskør, this centre offers everything an artist could wish for: state-of-the-art studios, wood-fired and gas-fired kilns, an impressive studio collection, and an inspiring sculpture garden. Whether you're an experienced artist seeking further development or a student with ambitious goals, at Guldagergaard you'll find an international community that elevates ceramics as an art form to new heights. In addition to residency programs, they organize workshops, exhibitions, and events guaranteed to ignite your creative spark.
The Challenge
Our collaboration with Guldagergaard began in 2020 when they approached us with a unique challenge: developing sturdy, custom-made displays that could remain outdoors year-round, weatherproof. This led to a new product in our range: the outdoor plinth in white and black, also available with a display case.
In 2024, they wanted to use these plinths for their annual Claytopia Festival, which transforms the park around Guldagergaard into a vibrant ceramics’ paradise every July. During this summer festival, visitors are treated to open-air exhibitions, clay workshops, live discussions on current topics, and music in the cozy festival tent. The plinths not only had to offer aesthetic value but also to safely display the artworks, regardless of the weather.
The Execution
From the initial design in 2020, we worked together step by step to create the perfect outdoor plinth. That year, we also delivered the first outdoor plinths with display cases for outdoor use. We tested various materials and constructions and refined the design until it was both visually robust and weatherproof.
In 2024, we delivered 35 white plinths with plexiglass display cases, all suitable for outdoor use. The client was so pleased with the result that they immediately ordered another 25 plinths with display cases for a new exhibition in 2025.
